Veterans in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa in need of assistance are urged to take part in a “Stand Down” on November 2nd in Omaha. Public Affairs Officer for VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Will Ackerman says they will be providing assistance with a number of programs these individuals may be eligible for.
Services include eye exams, health screenings, information on drug and alcohol counseling, mental health services and much more. Those attending will also receive free clothing and a hot meal.
Ackerman says the good news is over the past few years they have seen more than a 20% decrease in the number of veterans taking part in the “Stand Down”. He says that means their programs are likely working and there are fewer veterans living on the street.
Several organizations are taking part in the event which will be held at the Omaha Civic Auditorium from 9am until noon.
