The Creighton Volleyball team fell out of first place on Friday with a 3-0 loss at Marquette on Friday. Scores of the match in favor of the Golden Eagles were 25-22, 25-18, 25-13.
The Bluejays (14-5, 5-2 BIG EAST) had their season-long five-match win streak halted with the loss, while Marquette improved to 13-5 (5-1 BIG EAST). The result was in stark contrast to the meeting 12 days ago between the league favorites, when CU controlled a 25-21, 25-21, 25-19 decision in Omaha.
MU freshman standout Autumn Bailey, held to a career-low six kills on Oct. 13, had seven kills in the first set en route to a match-best 13 on the night. She added 11 digs on .303 hitting. Nele Barber had 12 kills and hit .429 for the evening. MU hit .322 and finished with 47 kills, five aces, 55 digs and four blocks.
Creighton was paced by eight kills each from Leah McNary and Jess Bird, while Kate Elman paced the defense with 15 digs. CU had 35 kills, one ace, 54 digs and nine blocks on .164 hitting overall.
Creighton returns to action on Saturday at 2:30 pm with a contest at DePaul.
