The No. 17 Nebraska women’s basketball team got 20 points and 11 rebounds from Jordan Hooper and 11 points, 12 rebounds from Emily Cady in a 75-34 exhibition victory over Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Hooper and Cady combined for 16 points in Nebraska’s 23-3 surge over the final eight minutes of the first half to take control of the game.
Cady’s former Seward High School teammate Hannah Tvrdy pitched in 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Tvrdy went 2-for-4 from three-point range, connecting on half of the Huskers’ makes on a 4-for-19 three-point shooting game as a team. Sophomore Rachel Theriot added seven points and four rebounds.
As a team, Nebraska finished the game just 36.5 percent (23-63) from the field, but the Huskers held UNK to just 20.8 percent (11-53). Nebraska outrebounded UNK, 51-42, and won the turnover battle 33-22, in a sloppy game for both teams.
The Huskers open regular-season play this Friday against UCLA. Tip-off between Nebraska and the Bruins is set for Noon
