One man is dead and another is in custody after a weekend altercation in Sidney.
Twenty-three-year-old Theodore Medina was arrested for felony first-degree assault after officers were sent to a home Saturday afternoon in Sidney where a fight had broken out between Medina and the victim, local man Ernie Ward.
According to court documents, when officers arrived Medina was giving Ward CPR.
Medina claimed Ward was drunk and antagonizing him verbally when the altercation turned physical. At one point, Medina allegedly picked Ward up and threw him down, causing Ward to hit his head.
Ward was diagnosed at Sidney Regional Medical Center as having extensive brain injuries and bleeding around his skull and brain. Ward was pronounced dead at 11:32 Saturday night.
An autopsy will be performed and the investigation continues.
