More than 700 pounds of marijuana has been seized from a semi tractor-trailer traveling through Nebraska.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports 730 pounds of marijuana was discovered in bundles found in boxes of produce in the trailer.
The patrol estimates the street value of the marijuana at $2.5 million.
The patrol nearly missed making the discovery.
According to the patrol, troopers are the Waverly scales made a routine inspection of a J&J Transport truck traveling east on I-80 from San Bernardino, CA. Troopers arrested 40-year-old Marcel Bud of Taylor, MI on an active warrant for failure to appear in Lincoln County. They let the driver, 58-year-old Julio Pena Sanchez of La Palma, CA continue on.
A further investigation prompted NSP investigators to stop the truck again, this time in Lincoln. A probable cause search discovered the marijuana.
Both Bud and Sanchez have been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell it.
