Nebraska drivers wanting to cross the Missouri River on Highway 34 will need to find another route this week. The Plattsmouth Bridge is closed this week for a routine inspection. There are signs along Highway 75 and I-29 warning drivers of the closure. Alternate routes to cross the river included the Bellevue Bridge to the north or the Nebraska City Bridge to the south.
The Plattsmouth Bridge that connects Cass County, Nebraska to Mills County, Iowa was built in 1929. Construction is underway on a new span between Mills County and Sarpy County, Nebraska. The new four lane bridge will likely carry much of the traffic currently on the Plattsmouth and Bellevue Toll Bridges that are two lanes.
