Omaha cycling advocate Kurt Goetzinger received a phone call that the Omaha Police Department Bike Patrol needed a new bike rack to mount on a cruiser and if he knew of anyone who may have a spare. Goetzinger put the word out to the Dundee Chain Gang Cycling Club and it didn’t take long to get a response.
Goetzinger says, “Within minutes we had a bike rack donated but the Dundee Chain Gang wasn’t going to stop there. Dozens of members replied with offers to donate additional items and cash to support the bike patrol.”
Donations reached $1,100 in cash as well as an additional bike rack. The money will be used to purchase all of the current equipment and supplies needed by the patrol.
Goetzinger added the Bike Patrol has a strong working relationship with the cycling community and have sponsored bike rodeos to teach children safety skills of riding. He says this is a thank you for supporting safe cycling and keeping the community safe.
