Grand Island police have little to go on as they investigate a shocking murder.
52-year-old Todd Elsbernd was shot and killed in the parking lot outside his law firm.
Police Chief Steve Lamken says it appears two shots were fired from a rifle by somebody lying in wait for Elsbernd.
“The suspect was parked in the parking lot for a considerable length of time before the shooting,” Lamken tells reporters. “The police department believes that this is not a random act and that Mr. Elsbernd was targeted by the suspect.”
The only description police have of the suspect is a white male of unknown age wearing glasses.
It appears two shots were fired; one shot hit Elsbernd in the torso. He died at St. Francis Medical Center.
Hall County Attorney Mark Young says it has not been determined whether a special prosecutor will be needed.
“If it turns out the motive for this senseless act would cause an appearance of impropriety, we certainly will be requesting assistance and a special prosecutor,” Young says.
Anyone with information is asked to call Grand Island Police Department at 308-385-5400.
