Shoppers started standing in line overnight at the new Nebraska Crossing Outlet Mall near Gretna this morning to get a good parking spot and be one of the first inside. The ribbon was cut at 8:30 this morning and shoppers were allowed inside at 10:00.
Those heading to the outlet need to pack some patience. There are about 1,500 parking spots for customers and employees and no overflow parking is available. Shoppers are urged to carpool as much as possible and be ready to wait.
Travelers on I-80 eastbound between Omaha and Gretna are urged to be very careful as apparently drivers are parking along the shoulder and hiking to the mall. There is also a lot of foot traffic as shoppers park at the Flying J Truck Stop and are hiking across the interstate bridge to the shopping center.
There are about 70 stores and many are new to Nebraska. Gretna city officials hope the new shopping center will boost their economy and it will lead to future development.
