An investigation is underway into the death of a homeless man in Lincoln.
Lincoln Police Department spokeswoman Katie Flood says emergency workers first responded to a call Saturday afternoon that a drunken man had passed out behind a building.
47-year-old George Ike was quickly taken to the hospital.
“At the hospital, he made comments to emergency room staff that he had been hit by a car and then later changed his story and said that he had been assaulted,” Officer Katie Flood, spokeswoman for the Lincoln Police Department told reporters.
Flood said it is difficult to determine which story is true.
“Based on his injuries, they appear to be consistent with an automobile accident,” according to Flood. “However, based on his statements, we aren’t ruling out that it could have been an assault.”
Lincoln Police are asking for the public’s help in the investigation.
