Creighton All-American Doug McDermott starts this season the same way he ended last season, being named National Player of the Week from ESPN.com. McDermott averaged 25.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in three Creighton wins to start the season. McDermott made 55.8 percent from the field, 53.3 percent from three-point land, and 78.6 percent of his free throw attempts.
McDermott opened his season with 20 points in 20 minutes during a 46-point win over Alcorn State. The Preseason BIG EAST Conference Player of the Year had 18 points in the opening half as Creighton built a 52-36 halftime lead and cruised to victory.
Three days later McDermott had 37 points in 31 minutes of play in a 26-point victory over UMKC. McDermott had all 37 points in the first 28 minutes of the game, connecting on 15-of-25 field goals, including 5-10 from three-point range, as well as a pair of free throws. He also snared seven rebounds.
Creighton returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Tulsa in a game scheduled for a 2:32 p.m. tip-off.
