It is the week before Thanksgiving and today marks the American Cancer Society’s 37th annual Great American Smokeout. Lisa Fuchs is a certified tobacco treatment specialist with Alegent Creighton Health in Omaha and says kicking the nicotine habit won’t be easy but there is plenty of help out there.
Fuchs says seeking help from counselors is also very helpful because along with the physical withdrawls there is also a mental part of the addiction that needs to be addressed.
Statistics from the American Lung Association shows nearly 20% of all adults in Nebraska smoke and 15% of high school aged teens light up. Data also shows that 70% of the 45-million smokers nationwide say they want to quit.
