Derrick Gordon scored 20 points, leading five UMass players in double figures as the Nebraska men’s basketball team came up short in the final minute at the Charleston Classic for a 96-90 loss on Thursday. Gordon scored 12 of his points in the second half as UMass built a 13-point lead with just under 10 minutes to play. The Cornhuskers rallied down the stretch, closing to 89-87 with 1:39 left. Moments later with NU down three, Gordon drew a charging call on Deverell Biggs.
Texas Tech transfer Terran Pettaway led the Cornhuskers with a career-high 28 points who shot 28 of 65 for 43% for the game. Four other Huskers were in double figures. Tai Webster, Leslie Smith and David Rivers all scored 12. Shavon Shields finished with 10. Smith finished with a double-double adding 10 rebounds.
