The Nebraska University Board of Regents approved the recommendation of NU President James Milliken that Dr. Jeffrey Gold of the University of Toledo to be the next chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Gold has been the chancellor and executive vice president of biosciences and health affairs as well as executive dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Toledo.
“I’m delighted to name Jeff Gold as UNMC’s next chancellor,” Milliken said in a written statement released by his office. “The feedback I’ve received from Dr. Gold’s visit to Nebraska last week and his references confirm my view that he is exactly the right person to build on UNMC’s tremendous momentum and lead the campus in this exciting and challenging time for health care.”
The Board of Regents met this morning at Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege St. in Lincoln. The Gold appointment was the only item on the agenda.
Senior associate to the president for innovation and economic competitiveness and professor of pathology and microbiology, Dr. Jim Linder, led the chancellor search committee.
