Two are dead in what Lincoln police say were gang-related shootings this past weekend.
Lincoln Police Chief Jim Peschong says police responded to a shooting call just a couple of blocks from the state Capitol and found 20-year-old Erick Musito dead from gunshot wounds to his chest and side.
Peschong says Musito got into an argument with 22-year-old Hector Lopez, a member of a rival gang. Lopez left the apartment, only to return with a handgun. According to police reports, Lopez corned Musito in the bathroom, shooting him twice.
A search for Lopez led police to his mother’s mobile home.
Police surrounded the trailer and attempted to talk Lopez out. Neither talk nor a couple of gas canisters thrown into the trailer could coax Lopez out. Instead, Lopez fired at officers from the trailer. No one was hit. Police didn’t return fire and later stormed the trailer only to fine Lopez dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
