After hitting the malls on Black Friday, many Nebraska shoppers are logging onto the websites of their favorite merchants today for what’s known as Cyber Monday.
Plenty of online retailers are offering discounts and other incentives to lure in customers. Retail expert Betty Hurd says it’s shaping up to be a very busy day.
Hurd says, “Absolutely, it’s still expected to be one of the top days for internet shopping.”
Many consumers are attracted to the 24-hour convenience of the Internet, while online retailers are constantly coming out with different deals for holiday shoppers.
“Now, we’re looking at free shipping or other things to help people get the product they’re looking for,” she says.
This year, more than half of smartphone owners will be using that device to compare prices and make a purchase online, according to the National Retail Federation.
Cyber Monday is forecast to generate $1.8 billion in sales. A recent survey found 81% of shoppers are scoping out the deals online but only about 14% of them actually buy online.
