A southeast Nebraska man was killed in a traffic accident on an ice-covered rural road Wednesday morning.
Richardson County Sheriff Randy Houser says 62-year-old Charlie Furrow of Falls City lost control of his pickup on an icy road south of Rulo.
The truck left the road and struck a power pole, which fell across a trailer being pulled by the pickup.
Sheriff Houser says Furrow was not injured in the initial accident, but was apparently electrocuted after he came into contact with power lines that were suspended close to the ground after the accident.
Furrow got out of his pickup to talk to a witness, who notified authorities of the accident. Furrow told the witness he was okay and would return to his truck to stay warm.
The first officer to arrive at the scene found Furrow lying face down underneath the power lines. Efforts to revive him were not successful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
In a separate accident, a 16-year-old boy from Schuyler died in a rollover crash in Colfax County. The teen-ager was a passenger in a car with two other youths. The two who survived were treated and released from a local hospital. No names have been released.
