Gov. Dave Heineman has announced the appointment of Patrick M. Shannon of Bellevue to the Third District in the Unicameral.
Shannon, 55, is a disabled Air Force veteran and business owner.
“Pat is a fiscal conservative who supports lower taxes, opposes Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion, opposes taxpayer-funded benefits for illegals, and he is pro-life,” Heineman said in a written statement released by his office.
Shannon retired from the Air Force in December 1993 at the rank of Master Sergeant. The governor’s office lists his numerous military awards that include the Presidential Letter of Commendation from President Ronald Reagan, presented by General John Chain, the then Commander-In-Chief of Strategic Air Command, in September 1988.
Shannon is a senior partner at a tax and accounting firm. He owns and operates several businesses in Bellevue.
Shannon and his wife Lauri have two sons.
His appointment becomes effective on Monday when the Secretary of State administers the oath of office in the Governor’s Hearing Room.
Legislative District 3 encompasses a portion of Sarpy County. Shannon will serve until the general elections next year. He fills the seat left vacant by the resignation of Sen. Scott Price.
