Gov. Dave Heineman says the key to growth in agriculture is exporting what Nebraska grows.
Heineman touts agriculture as the key to Nebraska’s economic growth and the reason the state economy has succeeded while other states struggle.
To keep that up, Nebraska farmers and ranchers must increase their exports to other countries.
“I feel like my job as governor is to promote the state, to market the state, to open up doors for our farmers and business leaders in general and that’s what we’ve been able to do,” Heineman tells Nebraska agriculture reporters.
Heineman has led the state on 12 trade missions as governor to open markets in countries as diverse as Cuba and China. Nebraska has also hosted two reverse trade missions, in which the state has invited trade officials from other countries to Nebraska.
