After more than two-and-a-half years of problems it is smooth sailing at the Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant. Omaha Public Power District spokesman Jeff Hanson says they started resuming operations last week and the plant is now operating at 100% capacity.
The plant closed in April of 2011 for refueling but remained closed due to the Missouri River flood. A small fire inside the plant as well as other safety violations brought in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to oversee operations and safety of the plant. The plant will close again in 18 months for regular refueling.
