Creighton senior Doug McDermott has been named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. McDermott opened the week with 19 points and seven rebounds in Creighton’s 67-49 win vs. Marquette to open league play. McDermott had 10 points in the first seven minutes as Creighton bolted to a 15-6 lead and never trailed.
Against Seton Hall, McDermott had 30 points, 10 rebounds and tied a career-high with five assists. He scored 18 points in the first 10 minutes as CU built a 28-18 lead and never looked back. In the process, he became the first Creighton player since at least 1986 with a game of 30+ points, 10+ rebounds and 5+ assists.
With 49 points last week, McDermott climbed from 59th to 40th in NCAA history and now owns 2,562 career points. McDermott was previously honored this season on Nov. 18, Nov. 25 and Dec. 9 by the BIG EAST. It’s the 24th time in his 57-week career he’s earned a league Player or Newcomer of the Week accolade in his college career.
Creighton (12-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) returns to action on Tuesday night with an 8:02 pm tip at DePaul.
