The Creighton men’s basketball team returned to the Top 25, moving to No. 23 in the USA Today coaches poll. Creighton remained just outside the Top 25 in the Associated Press voting, coming in at 27th. Creighton is 12-2 on the season (2-0 BIG EAST) and riding a streak of seven straight double-digit victories.
Creighton’s No. 27 spot in the AP poll was its highest since being tabbed 20th on Nov. 25th. The Bluejays have been ranked in the top-25 30 times in 67 weeks under Greg McDermott, and this is the eighth time the team has been 26th, 27th or 28th in the same poll under the fourth-year head coach.
Creighton senior Doug McDermott has been named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. McDermott opened BIG EAST play by averaging 24.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in a pair of double-digit victories. He shot 50 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from three-point range and 85.7 percent at the line. With 49 points last week, McDermott climbed from 59th to 40th in NCAA history and now owns 2,562 career points.
Creighton returns to the court on Tuesday night at 8:02 pm with a game at DePaul.
