A sellout crowd of 15,012 left Pinnacle Bank Arena disappointed at the end of a thrilling Big Ten home opener for the Nebraska men’s basketball team. The Huskers lost 71-70 in a game that featured 11 ties and 10 lead changes.
Michigan made the final basket when Derrick Walton Jr. hit a driving layup with 23 seconds remaining.
Terran Petteway had a chance to win it at the end, but his shot missed on a driving layup. Leslee Smith had his rebound attempt roll off at the buzzer, as Nebraska suffered its first loss at home, drop to 0-3 in the Big Ten.
Petteway helped carry NU in the second half. He scored 14 points and came up with big shots in the half. His free throw put the Huskers up by one before the Wolverines hit the game winner.
Michigan never led by more than six and the Huskers never led by more than three in this close matchup. NU shot 53% from the game, while hanging with Michigan despite their 62% shooting night from the field.
NU will play again Sunday when they face Purdue.
