The Husker football program may be losing two defensive players. For sure, linebacker Jared Afalava will no longer be part of the team, that was confirmed by Bo Pelini.
However, Pelini remains quiet on Avery Moss, who also is not expected to return to the program. Pelini said at the Gator bowl that the defensive end was not in Florida because of a “personal issue back in Arizona.” Moss showed a bright future in his redshirt season, finishing with 4.5 sacks and 36 tackles, including eight for loss. He also had an interception, running it back for a touchdown against Northwestern.
Moss and Afalava did not enroll in classes for the spring semester.
Moss has a Jan. 27 court appearance in Lincoln for a charge of public indecency and disturbing the peace for an incident that occurred in December 2012, but this does not appear to be the reason for his absence from the team late in the season. Afalava did not make the bowl trip for a violation of team rules.
