Omaha police are searching for three men they believe are responsible for the death of a 5-year-old Omaha girl.
Police say Payton Benson was hit by a stray bullet Wednesday morning while inside her home at 45th and Bedford Avenue
Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer and Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert held a news conference Wednesday evening at Police Headquarters.
Chief Schmaderer says the shots that were fired came from a block away. A stray bullet struck Payton who was rushed to a hospital and later died. Witnesses reported hearing upwards of 20 gunshots fired a block from Payton’s home.
Schmaderer vowed to find those responsible for her death and the Omaha Homicide and Gang Units will be working around the clock. He says there had been gang and gun activity in the neighborhood north of 45th and Bedford in recent days.
Omaha police released a picture of the suspects and their vehicle. A $5,000 reward is offered through Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
