Creighton set school and BIG EAST records for three-pointers, in a 96-68 win over fourth-ranked Villanova on Monday night.
Creighton made its first nine attempts from three-point range, made 14 by halftime, and finished 21-for-35 for the game, all while winning a true road game against a ranked team for the first time 1978 and defeating a top-five team at any site for the first time since 1970. The last time Creighton beat a team ranked this high was 1963 against fourth ranked Arizona State.
After seeing a ten-game win streak come to an end at Providence on Saturday, Creighton came out of the gate red hot, making their first seven shots…all three’s, to open a 21-5 lead. CU’s lead grew as large as 47-19 with 7:12 left in the first period after a trey from Isaiah Zierden.
The lead eventually reached 41 (92-51), after CU opened the second half with a 36-9 run.
Ethan Wragge tied Creighton’s single-game mark held by Kyle Korver in 2003 by hitting nine, three-pointers. Wragge’s 27 points were a career-high, as were the 19 from Jahenns Manigat. McDermott added 23 points on 8-fo-13 shooting.
