A prominent oilman from Kimball was among two people killed in a crash on a snowy road Tuesday in the Panhandle.
The Nebraska State Patrol confirms that 64-year-old Bruce Evertson, CEO of Evertson Companies, was killed when the SUV he was driving Tuesday afternoon was involved in a head-on collision with a semi tractor-trailer on Highway 88. The accident caused both vehicles to catch fire and forced a section of the highway to close for several hours from Bridgeport to Highway 71.
Evertson’s passenger, 56-year-old Robin Lapaseotes of Bridgeport, was also killed.
The truck driver, 56-year-old Dennis Dobrinski of Bridgeport, was taken to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with non-life threatening injuries.
Weather is believed to be a factor in the accident and all three people were wearing seatbelts, according to the patrol.
In addition to his duties as CEO of Evertson Companies, Evertson was a past President and current member of the Nebraska Independent Oil and Gas Association and other industry-related committees and associations.
