A western Nebraska man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his live-in girlfriend.
Forty-eight-year-old Craig Johnson was sentenced to a mandatory life sentence for 1st Degree Murder, plus 40-50 years for Use of a Weapon To Commit a Felony and an additional 10-20 years for Possession of a Deadly Weapon. The sentences will be served consecutively, assuring Johnson should never see freedom again.
Johnson was convicted by a Sidney jury of killing 42-year-old April Smith in December 2011. Smith was found bound and stabbed in the apartment she shared with Johnson.
