Wayne State football player Eddie Key was found dead in his dorm room on the school’s campus around 7 p.m. Saturday evening. The Wayne police are continuing to investigate the cause of death.
Autopsy results released Monday morning show alcohol or drugs did not play a factor in his death and police have also ruled out self-inflicted injuries. Complete autopsy and toxicology results will take several weeks.
Key, a freshman from Lincoln, was a defensive end for Wayne State College. He played two years of high school ball at Lincoln North Star High School.
WSC Director of College Relations, Jay Collier said contact has been made with the student’s family and counseling is being provided to students.
“It’s a small college, with a small community and a small family, and this news ripples across the campus,” said Collier. “Anytime we lose someone, it has a very deep affect on the campus.”
