It is one of the biggest summer parties in Nebraska. Jeff Heldt is the co-chairman of the Cattlemen’s Ball, an annual event that raises funds for the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He says work on the annual event usually starts 14 months in advance and that includes selecting a host ranch. This year’s event will be held at the Hoot Owl Ranch near Harrisburg on June 7th. Hours of work goes into preparing the ranch for the annual ball. Heldt says that includes preparing the site for thousands of visitor and in some cases includes building roads.
Organizers are also looking for upwards of 600 volunteers for the event. Their help is needed in putting up tents to setting up hundreds of chairs on the ranch. The event features a golf tournament, food, a style show, auctions, dances and this year’s headliner is country music duo Montgomery Gentry.
A Trail Boss ticket for both days of the event is $350 and that includes Friday’s social, private reception, preferred seating for the Saturday evening dinner and concert. The $75 Top Hand ticket provides admission for all events on Saturday. Details on tickets and event information are available at cattlemensball.com or by calling 308-235-2289.
