Union Pacific Corporation is mourning the death of Chairman Jim Young.
Young died Saturday after a battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 61.
Young started at Union Pacific in 1978 and moved up the ranks to President and CEO in 2005. He was elected chairman in 2007. Young stepped down from that position in 2012 after he was diagnosed with cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Shirley and three children.
Nebraska U-S Senator Deb Fisher stated, “The passing of Jim Young is a tremendous loss not just for Union Pacific, which he ably led for so many years, but for the entire state of Nebraska. A lifelong Omahan, Jim’s leadership extended beyond the boardroom and impacted his community for the better. Bruce and I send our condolences and prayers to Shirley and the Young family.”
