Doug McDermott had a game-high 25 points and moved up to 11th on the NCAA all-time scoring chart as No. 11/12 Creighton picked up a road win at Marquette on Wednesday night, 85-70. Creighton improved to 22-4 on the year and at 12-2 in BIG EAST play, moved one-half game ahead of Villanova in the league standings.
Creighton’s lead reached double-figures at 26-16 on a McDermott score, and CU would maintain a lead the rest of the half and own a 42-35 edge at intermission.
McDermott scored the first four points after the break to give CU its biggest lead yet at 46-35, only to see Marquette answer with six straight and get the crowd on its feet. McDermott would answer, draining a trey in transition to silence the fans. McDermott’s first basket after the half, a left-handed lay-up over two defenders, moved him past Tyler Hansbrough and into 12th place on the NCAA’s all-time scoring list.
