In eastern Nebraska you say the name Caniglia you automatically think of Italian food and steaks. For nearly 100 years there have been dozens of Caniglia operated restaurants in Omaha but now it is an end of an era. Jerry Caniglia is closing the Venice Inn that has been open since 1957.
The original Caniglia’s opened a bakery in what is known as the Little Italy area of Omaha nearly 100 years ago. Then came the original Caniglia’s that closed in 2005. Then came Mr. C’s, the Royal Boy, Little Luigi’s, the Drawing Room and the Top of the World which was located on the top floor of the Woodmen of the World Tower.
Caniglia says a developer approached him with a deal he couldn’t refuse. He didn’t name the developer.
