Creighton wrapped up play at the UTA Hilton Invitational on Sunday with a 9-1 loss to Illinois. The Fighting Illini homered twice in the first inning and never looked back.
Creighton is now 4-6 after a 1-4 weekend in Texas, while Illinois improved to 10-3 overall.
Allie Bauch led off the first inning with a home run and Remeny Perez followed two batters later as the Fighting Illini quickly were staked to a 2-0 lead and chased CU starter Alexis Cantu.
The Illini scored twice more in the second and sixth frames to lead 6-0.
Creighton’s lone run of the day came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Liz Dike singled and Cantu doubled her home.
Illinois added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh to round out the scoring.
Brandi Needham (6-1) threw a complete game four-hitter to earn the win for Illinois.
Cantu, the first of three Bluejay pitchers, dropped to 2-1 after allowing her first runs of the season.
Creighton returns to action next weekend with four games in Tulsa next weekend.
