Jordan Hooper scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the No. 16 Nebraska women’s basketball team to a 72-65 win over Illinois on Thursday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena. It was Hooper’s 48th 20-point game in her 125th consecutive start as a Husker. Her five three-pointers upped her school-record total to 284 threes.
At the start of the second half, Hooper scored 12 straight points for Nebraska to allow them to grab the lead and pull away from a tie game. She scored the first basket of the second half to give NU at nine-point lead, but then Illinois responded with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 40-40. Hooper went on a 10-0 run of her own with a pair of threes, two free throws and a jumper to give Nebraska a 50-40 lead with 13:42 remaining.
The stage is set for the regular season finale at Purdue. With a win, Nebraska will get at least a share of the Big Ten title and the No. 1 seed in next week’s Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. A tournament that Purdue has won the past two seasons.
