NU women will face Minnesota at Big Ten Tournament, Friday night

March 7, 2014 By Bill Pollock

The No. 16 Nebraska women’s basketball team will begin its hunt for a Big Ten Tournament title on Friday, when the third-seeded Huskers take on the winner sixth-seeded Minnesota .

The Huskers (22-6, 12-4 Big Ten) earned a first-round bye after posting a 12-4 Big Ten mark for the second consecutive season. Nebraska’s 12 Big Ten wins matched the second-best conference victory total in school history for the second straight year.

Rachel Banham had 22 points and Amanda Zahui had 19 rebounds to lead the University of Minnesota to a comeback 74-68 overtime win over the University of Wisconsin. The Gophers never led in regulation and trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half.

Minnesota used a 14-4 run in the final 4:40 of regulation to force the first tie since the opening minutes of the game and send the game into overtime. The Gophers and  Nebraska face each other in this quarterfinal matchup tonight at 8 p.m. CT.
