The wife of a rural Cheyenne County man is being charged with helping him commit suicide and hiding the body.
For the past week authorities have been trying to sort out just what happened inside an igloo storage unit where 61-year-old Russell Kimble allegedly shot himself in the face with a shotgun provided by his wife, 53-year-old Deann Kimble on March 22.
According to court documents the couple married in 2004 and Deann agreed to four conditions set forth by Russell Kimble: not interfering when he decided he wanted to die, not telling anyone of his intentions, no memorial, funeral or burial, and she had to agree to face “any backlash either legal, family or opinions” that would stem from Russell’s death.
Deann Kimble now faces those legal issues. She was arrested Wednesday and is charged with felony counts of assisted suicide and concealing human skeletal remains. The charges carry prison sentences of up to five years each.
Russell Kimble’s body was discovered not far from their igloo home the day Deann was arrested while she was being interviewed by authorities. She claims she tied a cargo strap to Russell’s body and dragged it down a road where she covered it with gravel, dirt and firewood. Dave Collins for Nebraska Radio Network.
