The controversial housing ordinance in the city of Fremont that targets illegal immigrants is now a reality.
If you want to rent a home within Fremont’s city limits, now you have to get a permit. The long fought over Ordinance 5165 is now fully in effect.
The issuing and enforcement of the requirement to indicate you are a legal citizen now falls to the Fremont Police Department.
Police Chief Jeff Elliot says occupancy license applications are available at the police department for $5.
The chief says two people so far have applied and received the occupancy permits. Existing tennants do not have to apply for a permit unless they have a lease renewal.
