Nebraska 2nd District Congressmen Lee Terry says the State Department’s extension of the decision on the Keystone XL oil pipeline is just a case of playing politics as the 2014 election nears.
Congressman Terry says the State Department already stamped final on all the environmental reports. That was given to President Obama for his response. There was no time table set. He says at that time a number of environmental groups got together promising to boycott the 2014 election if the permit was signed. Two months later it is announced that no decision would be made until after the election.
Congressman Terry says, “One plus one adds up to it’s all about politics.”
The State Department extended the decision citing a lawsuit by environmental groups that the Nebraska Legislature made a mistake by giving Gov. Dave Heineman the authority to sign off on the state’s portion of the review process. Congressman Terry stays that lawsuit is on appeal and has already been stayed. He says if President Obama signed it today construction could start.
