Spring football practice at Chadron State College ended Saturday morning with the defense squeezing out a 23-16 victory over the offense in what head coach Jay Long described as a “fun-filled game.”
Actually, only one touchdown and one field goal were scored, but points were also awarded in various other ways—such as for coming up with turnover, a punt, pass and kick series and when linemen caught punts in between the seven series that pitted the offensive and defensive units against one another.
Long noted that the coaching staff didn’t take the game too seriously. The coaches had done nearly all of their evaluations during the practices that preceded the game.
“We let the players get after one another pretty good today,” Long noted. “We didn’t do a lot of contact during the spring because we didn’t want to get people hurt. We turned them loose today and some good hitting took place. I think the players enjoyed that. The best part was, we didn’t have any injuries today.”
