Morel mushroom season in Nebraska is underway. Nebraska Game & Park Commission spokesman Greg Wagner says the tasty morsels are starting to spring up along wooded river bottoms and by Mother’s Day they will be found along hilly forested areas.
Wagner says the same rules that apply to hunters also apply to those wanting mushrooms. He says don’t trespass and always ask the landowner’s permission to be on their ground. He says if caught you will be ticketed and will face a court date and likely a fine.
Wagner says when you return home make sure to wash the mushrooms well and then soak them in salt water. He says the easiest way to prepare them is to sauté in butter.
