Wednesday was a big day for 12 year old Katelyn Allen of Omaha. She was honored by the Omaha Police Department for her bravery and courage when two men broke into her home last month. Katelyn hid in the bathroom and called 911. She heard a lot of noise in parts of the house and decided to make a run for it. She opened the window and climbed out just when police arrived.
Katelyn says her parents had talked to her about what to do and have an escape plan in place. Her parents told her to hide under the stairs or in the bathroom. Katelyn says she chose the bathroom because it was closer.
One of the officers who responded to the call presented Katelyn with the award during an all school assembly.
