An 18 year old convicted of murder is sentenced to 60 to 80 years in prison. Justin Lentz killed his ex-girlfriend Melanie Koontz in May of 2012 in Omaha and left her body in Cole Creek near 78th and Blondo Streets. She was just 16.
Melanie’s parents, Michelle and Andy Koontz were in the Douglas County Courtroom today when Lenz was sentenced. Michelle says the family will now be able to focus on the good times instead of how she died. Andy Koontz says they are trying to remember Melanie the best they can.
Lenz will have to serve at least 30 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
