Martinez signs free agent deal with Philly, but what position will he play?

May 12, 2014 By Bill Pollock

Former Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez worked out at quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back at Nebraska’s pro day in March. He prefers to play quarterback, saying he “loves the position,” but after going undrafted, Martinez signed on with the Philadelphia Eagles. How they use Martinez is an uncertainty.

Martinez has speed and when he’s healthy, he could provide another option for Eagles head coach Chip Kelly as a wideout. During his redshirt freshman season, Martinez was a wide receiver on the Huskers’ scout team. Plus, cracking the quarterback depth chart seems unrealistic with a log jam at that position. Philly already has Nick Foles, Matt Barkley and Mark Sanchez.
