Fremont University President Ben Sasse has captured the Republican nomination to succeed Sen. Mike Johanns in the United States Senate.
Sasse took an early lead and never relinquished it, defeating Pinnacle Bancorp President Sid Dinsdale, former state Treasurer Shane Osborn, and Omaha lawyer Bart McLeay.
Sasse told supporters gathered in Lincoln that his campaign never fit the cookie-cutter campaigns designed by Washington, D.C. Sasse said the professional political pundits counted his campaign out, because he had never won before. Sasse stated they didn’t know him, because they didn’t know Nebraska.
Sasse will now face Democrat Dave Domina, a lawyer from Omaha in the General Election.
