Congressman Adrian Smith easily won the Republican primary of the Third Congressional District.
Smith says it didn’t bother him that military hero Tom Brewer challenged his re-election in the primary.
“It’s part of the process and with a two-year term one can never take anything for granted. Competition is alive and well. That’s what our founders had in mind. I think it’s healthy for our system,” Smith tells Nebraska Radio Network. “Moving forward, I appreciate the support of Colonel Brewer, offering his support last mind in a very gracious call that he made and I’m grateful.”
Smith won 66,881votes, according to unofficial numbers from the Secretary of State’s office, or 68% of the vote. Brewer received 31,215 votes; nearly 32% of the vote.
Smith does have a Democratic challenge in the general election. Mark Sullivan ran unopposed in the Democratic primary for the Third Congressional District.
