Residents and non-residents of Nebraska are encouraged to visit a state park or recreation area on Saturday. Nebraska Game and Parks Commission spokesman Greg Wagner says it is their annual Free Park Entry and Fishing Day. He says there is no charge to get into the gate or to fish but other fees will remain in place.
Wagner says many of the state parks and recreation areas will be hosting free family events. He says there is a 10K Run at Mahoney State Park. He says there will be several family fishing events as well.
Wagner says the open house gives folks a chance to see what they have to offer at no charge and a way to showcase the parks before the busy season starts Memorial Day weekend. They hope visitors are impressed and will include trips to parks in their upcoming summer plans.
