Justin Wiley’s goal in the 16th minute was all Lincoln Southwest needed as they beat Omaha Westside 1-0 in the Class A boys state soccer championship on Tuesday. The win gave Southwest its first state title in boys soccer.
Wiley scored off an assist from his younger brother AJ. The brothers were involved in six of the Silver Hawks’ seven goals in the tournament. Southwest finishes their season 18-1. Westside went 15-5.
4th ranked Columbus Scotus beat No. 3 Gretna 1-0 in overtime in the Class B championship match Tuesday, also held at Morrison Stadium. The only goal was a fluke.
A Gretna defender accidentally knocked the ball into the Dragons’ own goal after a crossing pass was sent in front of the goal. The game winner was officially ruled an own goal at the 3:44 mark of the 20-minute overtime.
