Governor Dave Heineman wants to be the next University of Nebraska President. The Governor said in a press conference on Wednesday morning, he understands why some people would want a candidate to have more experience in higher education.
“”They want a high quality applicant pool, I think that’s great,” Governor Heineman says. “Competition is good and I welcome and look forward to that. Then, I’m going to respect the university’s decision.”
Governor Heineman doesn’t believe his lack of a masters degree or doctorate to be a deterrent to his becoming the next president of the University of Nebraska. Heineman says he would focus on keeping tuition affordable and increasing research activity if he’s chosen. He says he would not encourage revisiting embryonic stem cell research.
The process to select the next NU President does not have a set time-table, but four finalists will be announced publicly after the application process ends. Governor Heineman says he notified all of the Regents of his decision to apply via an emailed letter yesterday.
