A 62-year old rural Hickman man was killed in a hit an run accident late Thursday night on a road near his home just east of Hickman. Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says Gregory Nicklas was killed in the accident in southern Lancaster County. Nicklas’ body was discovered by his wife. Sheriff Wagner says they believe that Nicklas was out walking his dog on Thursday night when he was struck just south of South 98th Street and Wagon Train Road near his home.
“The dog was at the back door of the house with its leash on, which was unusual. That led Mrs. Nicklas to believe that Greg had been out taking the dog for a walk, so she went out looking for him when the dog came home alone,” according to Sheriff Wagner.
“We are asking for any help that the public might have about a vehicle that might have been in the area or a vehicle that was acting suspicious and sustained fresh damage.”
Nicklas was the co-founder and co-CEO of Christian Heritage, a group that cares for abused and neglected children in the state.
Sheriff Wagner would like to hear from anyone who might have seen anything in that area shortly before 11:30 p.m. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 402-441-6500.
